It's not unusual for Tess to remain working in the study into the wee hours of the morning. What isn't usual is for her to be waiting for company, even if the hours aren't quite so wee as yet. It's still late and worse, she has little idea what she may be getting herself into.
Which also isn't usual, but sometimes these kinds of risks have to be taken and she's the only one, in her opinion, who can put themselves on the line right now.
That doesn't mean Tess isn't going to be pacing until her guest arrives.

She doesn't move for the next few minutes, allowing the feeling to completely take over. When it does start to subside she relaxes back against the cushions and smiles lazily up at him, stroking his back gently.

As he gazes down into her eyes, which remain very close to his own, a small smile will then be given to her in return.

"I don't know enough about you to be able to decide if the company you can offer would be appreciated." Tess sighs dramatically. "What am I to do?"

After a moment, she concedes, "I suppose you can be witty and you weren't bad with the ego building compliments, it's the deep and meaningful conversation that worries me." And again, she's just the picture of innocence.
