It's not unusual for Tess to be entertaining a guest. It's really not unusual for that guest to be Zod. What isn't the norm is that he's not the only person she's expecting.

It's time, they've decided, to put their plan into action, to attempt to rid themselves of one of the nuisances in their lives. Darkseid has been summoned to the mansion on the pretext of potentially another adventure or evening of games. Security has been told to notify Tess when he arrives and everything else is in place for what's really going to take place. Or so she - and Zod - hope.

So until he does make his presence known, they'll just have to wait. One way or another, it's going to be an interesting evening.

"The last time you got me a beverage on the pretense of being hospitable, I took two sips, and it was quickly forgotten." His tone remains rather light, though it becomes a bit lowered as she moves closer.

That knowing smile of her own returns. "Maybe I want one." She raises her eyebrows at him and then starts to move away again.

"Leaving your guest unattended," he tsks playfully. "Not very hospitable, you know."

"Leaving my guest to grow fonder of me in my absence," she corrects as she walks over to the bar and starts to pour herself a glass of water.

"I don't know if I can stand the anticipation." Which he'll emphasize by actually rising to his feet and walking up behind her as she goes about her pouring. Then one hand will rise up her back to push her hair out of the way so his lips can touch the skin of her neck lying underneath.

That... wasn't really what Tess had been expecting. She turns her head slightly in an attempt to get his attention. "Patience is a virtue and one you usually demonstrate with great proficiency. What's brought on this bout of forwardness, I wonder?"

Darkseid does enjoy keeping things unexpected. "Maybe I'm just not in a patient mood," he suggests softly, lifting his head slightly to regard her face with amusement.

"I see." She eyes the table for a moment and then turns her gaze back to him. "Well, the more you hinder my progress, the longer it will take me to get my water and the longer you'll have to wait for any ... enjoyment to begin. So all in all, I'd say your technique is somewhat counter-productive."

"I don't see how I'm hindering your progress," he counters terribly innocently, brushing his lips against her neck a second time. "You go right ahead and keep pouring."

"You," she says matter-of-factly, "are being distracting. Now go sit like a good boy and wait."

He raises his eyebrows at her, still quite innocent in manner. "Sitting and waiting are very different from coming when I'm called. I may need a special reward."

Tess smiles. "Oh, I think that can be arranged."

Darkseid returns her smile and studies her for a long moment before running his hand back through her hair and turning away.

"You know, you take an abnormally long amount of time to pour a glass of water."

"Well, I wouldn't if someone didn't keep distracting me," she says pointedly, turning back to work on the task at hand. "Besides, I am rather fastidious."

"Fastidious about your water?" he asks, giving her an amused--and knowing--glance back over his shoulder. "I had no idea."

"About most things, actually." Finally, she seems to be finished pouring and only when he's seated again does she start back for the couch herself.

"I see."

Once he is seated, he'll just lean back and watch her with that familiar mix of amusement and extensive knowledge etched into his expression. Her journey back toward the couch will be observed almost expectantly.

When she arrives, Tess half sits on the back of the couch, her right hand out of view, and sips her oh so carefully poured water. "Am I not allowed to have my idiosyncrasies?"

"You have plenty of idiosyncrasies, Tess," he informs her calmly, turning slightly to look at her. "None of which require my permission."

She tilts her head to look down at him better. "Oh, good. I'd hate to think I was normal."

"Ah, but you're not just abnormal. You're special," he replies softly, searching her gaze. "Or are you in need of another reminder?"

"I hardly think those were indications that I was special," she replies in kind. "Merely that you like my pretty face."

He lifts his innocent eyebrows again at that. "And to what indications would you be referring?"

She sips her water again and then sets her half-finished glass aside. "You know very well what I'm referring to."

"I haven't the slightest idea," he states dryly. "I'd like to think I've made it quite clear that your specialness is more than just skin deep and goes far beyond your pretty face, beautiful as it may be."
