It's not unusual for Tess to be entertaining a guest. It's really not unusual for that guest to be Zod. What isn't the norm is that he's not the only person she's expecting.

It's time, they've decided, to put their plan into action, to attempt to rid themselves of one of the nuisances in their lives. Darkseid has been summoned to the mansion on the pretext of potentially another adventure or evening of games. Security has been told to notify Tess when he arrives and everything else is in place for what's really going to take place. Or so she - and Zod - hope.

So until he does make his presence known, they'll just have to wait. One way or another, it's going to be an interesting evening.

Once the guards let him pass, Darkseid walks the length of the hallway fairly quickly, swinging the doors open when he reaches Tess' study. Once he does, he smiles particularly knowingly just for her and nods in greeting.

"Got lonely rather quickly this time, did you."

Tess smiles in return, taking her glass over to her new favourite chair and setting it on the table beside. She then pats the cushion of the chair as a gesture for him to sit.

"It seems I did. But then, after our last encounter, how could I not?"

He crosses the room ever so compliantly and sits in the specified chair.

"Those improvements must have been greatly appreciated. I'm not used to receiving an invitation," he points out, still smiling at her. "Though I must say it doesn't feel nearly as mysterious this way."

"Oh, those improvements were very much appreciated. So much so that an invitation just had to be extended, which is as much of a mystery in and of itself, is it not?" Tess counters playfully, leaning in from behind him to not quite whisper in his ear. "I mean, I must have a reason for said invitation, mustn't I?"

He lifts an eyebrow and turns his head slightly to look at her when she leans in closer. "Ah, but I'm supposed to be the vague and mysterious one."

She simply smiles back, holding his gaze for a moment, and then slowly walks over to another more familiar couch and sits herself there. "Well, that's hardly fair. Where's the fun in it for you if I don't hold up my end of the bargain?"

"And here I thought the mysteriousness was my end of the bargain." He turns to look at her but remains seated himself. "Not trying to steal my job, are you, Tess? That would be cheating."

Her smile remains as she leans back comfortably against her seat, crossing her legs. "Oh, no. You're still the cheater here, not me."

"So now you get to be mysterious, yet I remain the cheater?" Darkseid asks in mock exasperation. "That hardly seems fair."

"Maybe I'm simply being my usual, devious self," she suggests playfully, then raises an eyebrow at him. "Are you going to stay there or come over here and keep me company?"

He lifts an eyebrow right back at her, though still smiling, and rises to his feet, walking over to join her. Then he sits close beside her and tilts his head to search her gaze.

"You must really be lonely this evening," he says, his tone a bit lowered but equally playful.

She grins again and even huffs out a soft laugh. "Perhaps I'm simply seeing how well trained my new pet is."

That huff of laughter will actually be returned. "And what makes you think I come when I'm called because I'm trained to?" He gives her a brief glance up and down. "Perhaps I just want to."

"Training does require you get a treat when you do something right for the first little while," she replies smoothly, tilting her head at him. "Or a prize."

He meets her gaze and pretends to consider that for a moment. "Ah, but what am I doing right, precisely?"

Another soft laugh. "Well, you did come when you were called. More than once."
