It's not unusual for Tess to remain working in the study into the wee hours of the morning. What isn't usual is for her to be waiting for company, even if the hours aren't quite so wee as yet. It's still late and worse, she has little idea what she may be getting herself into.

Which also isn't usual, but sometimes these kinds of risks have to be taken and she's the only one, in her opinion, who can put themselves on the line right now.

That doesn't mean Tess isn't going to be pacing until her guest arrives.

He remains still and studies her for a long moment, his hands coming to rest in the middle of her back. Then, in a gentle yet firm movement, he pulls her up against him, officially closing what little space remained between them, and takes a moment to stare into her eyes.

Then he'll lean down closer to her, his lips brushing only lightly against hers. After a moment, they withdraw, less than inch, as if waiting to see what will happen next.

All Tess can think is that it's about time, because it isn't like they hadn't been telegraphing this from the beginning. But she's surprised by how gentle he's being.

When they're apart, Tess takes just a moment to slide one of her hands from his chest up around his neck before pulling him in for another kiss.
