Tess has just put Alice back to bed and is looking forward to a quiet night in. As such, she's settled by the fire in the study, a book she'd picked up randomly earlier in the week on the table in front of her. If she's lucky, she might even get to start it.

She closes her eyes and heaves a sigh. "I know."

He hesitates briefly before slipping his arms around her and pulling her into a hug. "I'll be fine."

It's still a strange feeling but she doesn't resist, wrapping her arms around him as well. "You'd better be."

"You can keep track of my every move," he points out, fingers teasing a little tuft of hair.

"Oh, I will be." As if that was even a question. And if she appears to snuggle a little closer, surely it's just his imagination.

As it would be hers if he appeared to tighten his hold on her. And then he'll fall silent, staying right where he is.

Tess does the same, simply enjoying being here, with him, when for once nothing is immediately pressing.
