Revelations with kneel_majorzod

Tess has just put Alice back to bed and is looking forward to a quiet night in. As such, she's settled by the fire in the study, a book she'd picked up randomly earlier in the week on the table in front of her. If she's lucky, she might even get to start it.

From the lab, Zod wastes absolutely no time in getting to the mansion. And when he arrives, he'll blow right through security, not stopping once until he's at the study's entrance, where he enters abruptly.

Then he sees her by the fire, and his expression changes from one of urgency and worry to one that looks immensely relieved. And sort of like he might want to hug her. But he doesn't.

After pushing her hair out of her face, she glances over at him and sighs. "I knew it wouldn't last."

He's not sure what that means, but he's just going to stare at you for a moment, Tess.

Then, after a deep breath, "You're here."

"Yes?" She raises her eyebrows at him. "Am I supposed to be somewhere else?"

Zod shakes his head and, after another moment, moves to sit beside her. "I just saw you somewhere else."

Tess blinks at him. "I'm sorry?"

"And she knew things," he continues hurriedly. "For a while, she almost had me convinced."

Zod tilts his head at her. "Why would he do that?"

She shakes her head, running a hand through her hair. "I don't now, but I was at Cadmus. Why would I be at Cadmus?"

"Maybe it was in my head," he suggests with a frown. "Darkseid could have put it there." But he doesn't think so.

"That would be something he'd do," she agrees with a nod.

"But everything felt real," he tells her, putting a hand on one of her arms almost experimentally. "Just as real as this."

She glances down at his hand. "I know. There are metahumans who can do the same thing."

He feigns a sigh. "It was worth a try. Still, there must be something else. What is he interested in? Besides you."

"He likes books, which he can't read on his own yet," she frowns a little. "I think might try to get him involved in sports once the weather gets warmer."

"Given his energy levels, I think that would be a good idea." Zod pauses and studies her for a moment. "In the meantime, if ever it gets to be too much, I could always...look after him for a day. Of course, he'd probably just want to be with you."

Tess smiles up at him. "I think he'd like that, actually. He does have a fondness for all things military. I suppose it's something you can't take out of the genes."

"I wouldn't even make him spar or anything," he teases, giving her a smile in return. "But I could show him around the barracks, if he's interested."

"I'll ask him about it, but I'm fairly certain he'll be incredibly excited."

She pauses before adding, "Thank you."

"I can take you to the lab in the morning," he suggests quietly after several more seconds pass.

"All right," she nods against his shoulder. "Did you want to stay here?"

He pauses for a moment and then rests his head against hers again. "Would you like me to?"

"I would," she confirms quietly.

He nods. "So would I."

She smiles, whether he can see it or not, and settles more comfortably against him.
